The summer sun brings with it a lot of skin challenges and one of those is the reappearance of dry, rough, and cracked heels. Our feet do not have oil glands and hence they are more prone to act ‘roughly’ when the summer season sucks moisture out of our bodies. Hence, it becomes very important to keep those feet moisturized during the season and thus, TWND brings you an easiest DIY pedicure right at your home to suit your convenience.
Come summers and all we girls love to wear are flip-flops, t-strap sandals, or wedges that flaunt our heels and feet. Also open footwear is the option to go in summers as it brings relief from feet sweat and uninvited odor. Not only feet catches the attention in your summery dresses and free flowing outfits, the feet also gets attention in your private moments. I am sure you all want to amp up the meter by cuddling your partner using your feathery soft feet rather than having a scratching sound of your dry heels under the sheets. So go all out and treat yourself to this DIY pedicure at home at least once in a week and then Jaani, in paaon ko zameen par mat rakhna.
Step 1: Foot Soak: Soak, not under the sun, but in the tub
First step is quite simple. Remove any nailpaint, if you have applied on your nails, and all you have to do is soak your feet in plain warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Now depending on the roughness of your feet and also on your budget, you can add bath salts or oils in your basin or tub.
If you have hardened feet or calluses, you can add a cup of white vinegar to your hot water tub and soak your feet for 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Exfoliate: Foot Scrub
With all that soaking, your feet would have already softened. Now, the second step is to exfoliate the dead skin using a pumice stone. Just rub it mildly to get rid of dead skin on your feet.
You can keep on touching your feet with your hands to see if you have got rid of dead skin and once you have, time to move on to final step.
However, if you have cuticles, you need to add a step before exfoliating. Mix oil with water (50:50 ratio) and warm it. Soak your toe-nails in it for 15 min…the cuticles will soften. You can get rid of them using a pumice stone while exfoliating or push them using a nail filer.
Step 3: Moisturize for Soft Feet
Suiting your preference and skin type you can use oil, lotion, vaseline jelly, or any cracked heel cream for moisturizing your feet. To deeply moisturize really dry and cracked heels, a cracked heel cream is the way to go.
You can also add Vitamin E oil/glycerin and rose water to your moisturizing lotion for even better results. Once you are done with your massage, it is time to take out your nail-paint of choice and paint the world…sorry toe-nails. The world shall follow anyhow.
Silent Tip: I personally ask my house-help (if she is comfortable) to give me a nice foot massage after I have completed the first two steps. Obviously, I pay her extra for this task. So women (and metro sexual men), feel free to pamper yourselves for that super soft feet and bid adieu to those highly priced parlour pedicures, dangerous callus shavers, and unhygienic pedicure kits used in parlors.
